Maharajji
was born in a
wealthy brahmana family in West Bengal. In his teens he
went to Vrindavana where he took initiation from Sri Sri Vinoda Vihari
Gosvami coming in the line of Gadadhara Pandita. He first served and
studied from him, and then on his order went on to study in Benares
where he obtained nine graduate degrees and three
postgraduate degrees in various fields of Indian philosophy.
Apart from his scholastic erudition, he became famous for setting up Sri Gadadhara-Gaurahari Press, through which he published Hindi and Bengali translations of many Vaishnava works in Sanskrit, doing thus invaluable service to the Vaishnava community. Besides many commentaries, he also authored Vedanta-darshana where he explained which aphorism from Vedanta-sutra corresponds to which verse in Srimad Bhagavatam.
Now, even despite his advanced age, he is actively engaged in the service of cows, for which he has constructed two goshalas and in which he has involved all his disciples (directly or indirectly), giving them thus a hard-to-obtain opportunity to advance in their practical application of bhakti.
He also gives darshans, worships deities, manages the ashram and the goshalas, personally supervises and takes care of cows, proofreads, translates and publishes sastra, providing us in this way with the best possible example of how to live simply and totally devoted to the service of Krishna, guruji and all living beings.
